At the start of the year our mentor wrote letters to themselves. Which seems a bit year-5-ish, but actually ended up being a relatively good idea. For shiggles, here it is.

Incidentally, this is the first time I've read something like this and not thought, "Oh gods, what a twit I was.". Past me, in this case, is pretty cool.)

So, past me, here's your reply:

Dear Past Self,

Yes, I did survive. No burning, waterlogging, or washing machines. It wasn't easy, but I made it. Thanks for the congratulations.

I did get around to organising the trip, actually. Egypt and France. Tour booked for Egypt, flights booked both ways. I'll be away about a month, all of December and a bit of November and January which will mostly be spent in airports. So you've got that to look forward to.

As for deciding what you actually want to do with your life, well, I'm still not sure. But I (you? we? what's the appropriate pronoun in this situation?) have decided what to do at uni, as far as preferences are concerned. At this point I'm sure I could say loads of crap about how you have to figure this out for yourself, but I never was one for obeying those stupid laws of time travel or causality or destiny or whatnot, so I'll summarise it for you: You go to the UWA open day, listen to the Communications Studies talk, decide it sounds pretty okay, and put it down as your first preference the same day. There, solved.

As for the straight 'A's, well... no. Just no. And neither is topping a subject. There are too many incredibly good people for either of those to happen. Second might happen though. And I might still top Lit. Maybe. If I'm lucky.

Yours sincerely,

Future Self.
