On games of strategy.

I'm a bit of a strategy game nut.

I'm okay at some of them, though mostly I suck. I really like 'em though, I dunno why. Something about making those little dudes wiggle their way across the screen... plus most games have a historical (Age of Empires), fantasy (Battle for Wesnoth) or sci-fi (Starcraft) theme, which are all things I'm (also) a bit nuts about. Anyway

My friends and I used to play a bit of Wesnoth. It's turn-based on a hex map with a fantasy theme. Quite brilliant. But being turn- based and with our penchant for large epic maps, we'd never finish the games. So, Wesnoth was slowly relegated to the 'too hard' pile.

Recently, we've started playing Warcraft III. Totally different. Not only do you have to build bases and micromanage units, it's also ridiculously fast- paced, much more so than AoE or AoM. For me, someone that likes the base building and generally play a very defensive game, it's ridiculously hard. I generally find myself being attacked by sizable armies while I'm still dithering over which hero to choose. Still, despite being rubbish at it, I still find it a lot of fun.

I think that's what I've been trying to get at here. You don't have to be good at something to enjoy it. Getting my butt kicked doesn't stop me trying, and having a damn good time of it.

Hehe. Masochism anyone?

That's all for now.
